Youngsters from Ruda Śląska discover what happens to plastic after recycling – plasticLIFEcycle workshops
On May 21, 2025, the INVESTEKO S.A. headquarters transformed into an educational center. This was all thanks to workshops organized as part of the plasticLIFEcycle project. Our guests were students from School Complex No. 1 in Ruda Śląska – approximately 20 young people who wanted to learn more about how to handle plastic wisely and responsibly.
Plastic Under the Microscope – Theory and Practice
The workshop began with a theoretical introduction. Piotr Góral from EkoPartner Silesia Sp. z o.o. spoke to participants about different types of plastics and the challenges associated with recycling them. However, this wasn’t just dry theory – the students could see firsthand how plastic behaves when exposed to fire and water. The demonstration generated considerable interest, and participants eagerly asked questions, including why some plastics smell different when heated.
Technology at Your Fingertips
The next highlight of the program was a tour of the PLC installation, led by Krzysztof Fonfara (Plant Maintenance Specialist). This part of the visit gave the students a practical glimpse into how closing the plastics life cycle works – from waste to raw material.
Discussions, Questions, and Local History
After the practical part, there was time for a break. In a more relaxed atmosphere, the students had the opportunity to chat with the instructors, share their impressions, and ask additional questions. The final event was a trip to the KWK Polska Tower – a place that reminds us of the region’s industrial roots. Witold Szwedkowski, responsible for communications for the LIFE Archiclima project, spoke about the history of this facility. The meeting was not only an engaging lesson about recycling and the circular economy, but also a great opportunity to discuss the future of our planet. The plasticLIFEcycle workshops help young people understand that sustainability begins with everyday choices.
